Workers' and Freedom Songs 1844–1918
The Bear Family company has launched a collection of workers' and freedom songs from the years 1844 to 1990 which will encompass 12 CDs. Conceived by Jürgen Schebera and distributed by the Büchergilde Gutenberg, the series will ultimately feature over 280 sound documents. The first three CDs, available now, cover the years 1848 to 1918. They include not only examples of the Tendenzlied and the social-democratic workers' song which Eisler later, in part, deliberately distanced himself from, but also numerous examples of international workers' songs which Eisler worked into his own compositions. Songs by Eisler will naturally feature on the following CDs.
